Information tracks courses

0 | 28 May | Permalink | Written for snIT by Tant

Hello dear IT students!

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that there is soon a deadline for registering for the autumn tracks courses.

What is a tracks course?
It is a course that is interdisciplinary (goes over several programs), which anyone in years 2-5 and alumni can apply for. The topics that can be applied for this autumn are "Digitalization in sports", "Mechanics in sports", "Here, there and everywhere - healthcare integrated in our everyday life and places" and "Building and programming a quantum computer".

Why should I apply for a tracks course?
The biggest reason is that the projects are shaped according to your interests and knowledge. In most courses you can come up with project proposals if you are passionate about something. In addition, several of them go over two study periods and can therefore give you a different study period if you need it.

Where can I find more information?
On Canvas there is a page called "Tracks for students" where information about all available courses is up, there is also information on the student portal. There is an info film on YouTube. You should also have received an email to your student mail about which courses can be applied for right now. By 2022, the plan is to open a new learning environment specifically for tracks.

What do I need to think about technically?
It is an elective course, it works just like other elective courses. Most track courses are 7.5 credits and count towards your degree, but check with the examiner about what applies to the course you are interested in. Most track courses are counted as MTS, but it can be good to check with the examiner if the course can be counted as programming, math or other specialization.

How do I register?
You contact the examiner for the course you are interested in. More information is available on the canvas page, and the deadline for the different courses is a little different (some close on 31 May, others on 15 June), so check out what applies to the course you want to apply for!

What did others think of Tracks?
Excerpt from the course evaluation meeting:
“Lectures remained at a good level, with no major overlap with previously read courses.
Tied together to a larger context. The machine learning part was put on a good level ”
"Appreciated to end up in groups with students from other programs."

I have questions, who can I talk to?
You can always ask them to an examiner, snIT (at snit@chalmers.it) or someone who has taken a tracks course. Some we have talked to that you can ask questions to via slack are Johannes “Baloo” Mattsson (has gone Digitalization in sports) and Carolina “Putte” Larsson.

In conclusion, this is a fun chance to take a course that may give you insight into a new field, and get to work on a project with others who are interested in the same subject. You will get to do what you are good at with others who are good at something complementary to solve problems that are "real" rather than having another group project.

Nominate to the Pedagogical Prize!

0 | 6 November | Permalink | Written for snIT by Tant

Hi everyone!

Each year the student division and the Program board awards the Pedagogical Prize to the person who has done the most in the form of pedagogical contributions during the past year. The pedagogical prize includes, apart from the great honor of receiving it, a substantial check. We need your help in this matter! Send us your nomination for the person you think is worthy of the price. It can be a teacher, student or anything in between that you feel has made a large pedagogical contribution during the calendar year 2020 (VT20 - HT20). The winner will be chosen among the nominees by a jury that snIT will compose.

Usually the Pedagocical Prize also includes a glamorous dinner party, due to the prevailing situation with covid-19 it is very possible that this will not occur this year. We still plan to have some form of ceremony, more on that when we know more.
