apply for ArmIT, digIT and MRCIT

0 | 23 February | Permalink | Written for styrIT by Gurr

Right now, there are no nominations to ArmIT or digIT, but that also means there are plenty of seats available in both committées.
So, here's a bit of a sales pitch for both the committées, and why you should apply for them.

As a member of ArmIT, you'll be able to network and work with companies in the Software Engineering bussiness and you might meet just the people who can offer you your future part or fulltimejob. You'll also get inside knowledge about how to be extra attractive to companies, and the oppurtunity to market the Division to companies and make sure the Division can spend a whole bunch of money on things such as coffeé at Hubben and The Cloud. But most importantly, have fun and meet lots of new people.

As digIT (here i'm even able to write from my own experience) you'll be able to help develop the digital services of the Division, and learn a great deal about how webdevelopment, servers and working in projects outside of the school might be.

Also, MRCIT, the Master Reception Commmitté remains vacant after the last division meeting. As a member of MRCIT, you'll get to plan and realize a reception for the new master students at MPIDE and MPSOF and make sure the start of their time as master students becomes as enjoyable as possible.

If you'd like to know more about any of the committeés, you can of course ask the committeés, or in the case of MRCIT, you can contact styrIT. If you decide to apply, you need only nominate yourself at the student division meeting this Thursday.

If you want to apply for Chairman or treasurer you need to contact the nomination committee (Valberedningen) at valberedningen@chalmers.it and tell them you intend to nominate yourself for the position. But nothing more needs to be done before the division meeting.
Note that for both digIT and ArmIT, Swedish is the primary language.

Time and place

17:31 on Thursday the 25th of February, this study period's student division meeting will be held on Zoom. Discussions will be held in the channel #sektionsmöte on the CTHIT slack workspace.

Student division meeting over Zoom

IMPORTANT Registration

Link to registration: https://forms.gle/ZVBbxQwMi4boUVV79

To lessen the administrative burden on styrIT, this student division meeting will use registration. The same day as the meeting, a link to the meeting will be sent to the email you provided in the form. We will also use a waiting room for the meeting to ensure that only people eligible to attend are let in.

Meeting order and handbook

This will be our division's first student division meeting that is performed soley using Zoom. Since having a digital and a physical meeting is quite different we in styrIT have created a document with guidelines meant to make the meeting go more smoothly. These can be found below:
Meeting order for digital student division meeting
Handbook for the student divsion meetings

Food although a digital meeting

As Zoom does not have built in support for food delivery we have to change how we usually do things. At one point during the meeting, we will instead look who is in attendance at that point; all of those will recieve a food allowance sometime after the student division meeting.

Agenda

The preliminary agenda is avaliable in its entirety here.

This will be the primary topics.

Candidate for the Student Union Council

0 | 16 February | Permalink | Written for styrIT by Gurr

The Candidacy for FUM 2021 opened yesterday!

What is FUM?
FUM, or the Student Union council is the Chalmers Student Union’s highest governing body and works a bit like the student division meeting does at division level, but decisions are taken at union level. More information can be found here, where you can also declare candidature.

If you are interested in being a member of FUM, you can declare your candidacy right now, and the declaration is open until the 7e of March.
The election itself will take place between the 19th and 25th of April.

This year, the election committee (Valnämnden) wants to try to have every division form a party of their own, for the Software Engineering (IT) Division this would be IT-Partiet (PartIT?), a party must consist of at least 2 persons. If you have issues or opinions about Chalmers that you want to push this is a great opportunity! If you would like to represent the Software Engineering Division (IT) in FUM by candidating as a representative for the division, you are welcome to contact the division board at styrit@chalmers.it or through Slack.

DatE-IT has become an independent committee!

In 2021 DatE-IT has officially become an independent committee. This means that you no longer have to sit in a corporate relations committee in the Computer, Electrical or Software engineering divisions to be an eligable member of the DatE-IT project group. The election usually occurs at the end Mars. Do you want to be involved in organizing the biggest event for Computer, Electrical and Software students during the year? Apply for DatE-IT!

About IT's future Campus situation

0 | 31 January | Permalink | Written for styrIT by Gurr

Hi!

One of the items that the Software Engineering division board (styrIT) is focusing on this year is to investigate how the Software Engineering (IT) programme and the Division should work with the Campus partitioning, 2/3 of the masters associated with the Software Engineering (IT) programme (MPIDE and MPSOF) are given at Lindholmen, while the bachlor and one master (MPDSC) are given at Johanneberg.

There is currently an investigation from the university into how Lindholmen should best be utilized, one proposal in this investigation would mean that the Software Engineering (IT) Masters located at Campus Lindholmen would move to Campus Johanneberg.
Even if development on this proposal would continue, planning and executing on the plans would take a long time, a potential move would not take place for at least 5-10 years and the chance of anyone currently enrolled in the programme being affected by this is very small.

The board would now like to know how the Division as a whole wants us and future boards to proceed with the question of Campuses and the Software Engineering (IT) programme so that we can participate in the talks and advocate for our opinions as early as possible, so the future of the division and the programme can be as bright as possible, for our future and current members.
We would really appreciate if you could take a quick survey about how you would like the future of the Software Engineering (IT) campus sitation to be.

The Student Barometer 2021!

0 | 22 January | Permalink | Written for styrIT by putte

studentba

Finally, the most important survey of the year is here: The Student Barometer!

You have received an email on your student email from chalmers.studentbarometer2021@mail.quicksearch.se>
where you have received a personal link to the survey. It takes about 10 minutes to answer and your answers are handled anonymously. Deadline is the 12th of February.

The Student Barometer is Chalmers' annual survey of your study and work environment and it is done in collaboration with the student union. The survey exist so that you as a student to be able to make your voice heard and tell us what is good and functioning in your daily studies, and which areas require improvement. The goal is for you and your fellow students to feel good, have as little stress as possible and reach good study results. In order for the university and student union to assist in this, we need your answers in the Student Barometer. The result is used in the work with Chalmers organizational and social work environment, to promote equal treatment and prevent discrimination. This year, the survey is also more important than ever as it asks questions about how you experience distance learning.

As a big huge THANK YOU for filling out the questionnaire, we in styrIT also want to take the opportunity to give you the chance to win some nice things and have therefore created response rate goals that we together in the division hope to fulfil! To participate in any lotteries, you need (after answering the Student Barometer) to fill in your contact information in the following form https://forms.gle/8FeQ6Re8yMeHfxgW6.

To see how well we are meeting our goals, see the following page: https://barometer.chalmers.it

Warm greetings,

Aspning LP3!

0 | 18 January | Permalink | Written for FlashIT by Paint

Hey! The "aspning" for LP3 will start soon. Here is some information on what "aspning" is, which committees hold "aspning" and how to proceed to participate!

What is "aspning"?
It is a period when people who are interested in joining a committee get to test the committee's work and get the chance to meet and get to know the current committee and other aspar (aspar = aspiring, the students who participate in "aspning"). It is a period of about a month when different committees organize fun and interesting events!

You do not have to apply to a committee just because you participate in "aspning" (but if you want to apply, you should participate, to get to know other the work and other applicants).

Aspning LP3
ArmIT, DigIT and FlashIT organize aspning LP3 (information about the various committees can be found at chalmers.it/pages). Each committee has about 1 event per week. There is no overlap, so if you want to participate in "aspning" with more than one committee, you can. Schedules will be posted in the committees' Slack channels below.

It starts this week and will be held online. Below is information on when the committees have their kickoffs and which Slack channel you can join (further information regarding kickoffs and events will be in the channels):

FlashIT
Kickoff Wednesday 20/1
#flashit-aspning-2021

ArmIT
Kickoff Thursday 21/1
#aspa-armit2021

DigIT
Kickoff Friday 22/1
#aspa-digit

If you are a master student (from a different bachelor programme) and are interested in participating, please contact me on e-mail: schaffh@chalmers.it. The slack channels are in the IT workspace which master students who didn't attend the Software Engineering bachelor don't have access too.

0 | 23 December | Permalink | Written for snIT by Earl Grey

Hi everyone!

Now is the last chance to nominate people to the Pedagogical Prize. The opportunity to nominate somebody will close 31/12 at 23:59, so if you know somebody at Chalmers who has made a large pedagogical effort during 2020, nominate them now! The person can be a lecturer, TA, student or anything in between. Link to nomination form: https://forms.gle/5f7hmPhCb3VLLgAP6

Sadly we won't be able to host the usual sitting at the award ceremony, but will instead have a digital ceremony. More info regarding this will come at a later date.

Merry Christmas!
